July 2011

From the Pres,

Three years ago, I made one of the most important decisions of my life. I joined the Georgetown Runners. Since then I’ve not only enjoyed improved health, but have upped my running game while developing great friendships in the process. Now I’m club President
and I encourage you to also make the important decision to become a member of the Georgetown Runners this year.

The 2011/2012 season promises to be a busy and exciting one for our club and includes everything from participation in team races and interclub activities to social outings and our single most important club event – the Egg Nog Jog.

Our Thursday evening and Sunday morning club runs provide valuable discipline for our members and continue to draw new runners from the community. If you’re interested in an extra challenge, our weekly track nights are growing in popularity and are a fun way to improve your speed, agility and strength.

Many members are now preparing to participate in the Simcoe Shores Ultra Distance Relay – a 245km test of endurance this August. Our team is ready to test its mettle again this year while enjoying the social rewards that come with training and competing as a group.

New on the race card this September is our first annual Memorial Run – a joint initiative with the Milton Runners. A prediction format and picnic, the Memorial Run celebrates good times and good friends who are no longer with us.

This year marks our 30th anniversary. I’m delighted to tell you that our original six founding members are still active in the club today! We look forward to celebrating our history and our successes with a special dinner in November – reuniting with old friends and sharing some great stories with our new ones.

Save the date for our 29th annual Egg Nog Jog December 11, 2011. This is our most important club-organized event of the year and has gained remarkable popularity among the running community. Proceeds raised this year will support Cancer Assistance Services of Halton Hills and Community Living North Halton – two worthy and local charitable groups. Last year’s event sold out so don’t miss your chance to participate in the prettiest and most challenging road race in Ontario. Registrations are now open!

In January we host our annual wine and cheese evening. This is our chance to thank our members, volunteers and sponsors for their continued support and to present our charitable recipients with a donation. A great night… without the tights!

The Predicta is a fun interclub event held on Good Friday each spring. Together with the Milton Runners, we compete to win the coveted chocolate bunny!

June marks the end of our club’s fiscal year and our Annual General Meeting. The AGM is an opportunity for members to learn more about club happenings and to get involved on the various executive committees to help shape and improve club experience for all.

With all this, and more, I’m looking forward to another great year of running!

Finally, I want to acknowledge and thank our members for their continued support, involvement, and initiative in helping create a vibrant running club in our community.

And to those I haven’t met yet, I encourage you to take the first step to a healthy and rewarding lifestyle by joining us for a run sometime. You’ll be glad you did!

Yours Sincerely,

Mauro Uliana
President – Georgetown Runners
Fitness, Encouragement and Camaraderie since 1983.
